The office coffee station: six habits for a consistent cup
Great beans can be undone by a tired machine. Six simple routines that keep every cup at the standard it was roasted for.

A coffee program is only as good as its last cup. The beans may be roasted to the second, but the machine, the water and the daily routine decide what your team actually tastes. These six habits take minutes and protect the whole investment.
1. Clean daily, not weekly
Coffee oils build up quickly in group heads, brew units and drip trays, and old oils taste bitter. Follow the machine's daily cleaning cycle and wipe the steam wand after every use.
2. Mind the water
A cup of espresso is mostly water. Filtered water protects flavour and the machine itself; hard water leaves scale that slowly changes temperature and pressure.
3. Descale on schedule
Follow the manufacturer's descaling interval and keep a simple log next to the machine, so it never depends on one person's memory.
4. Keep the grinder honest
When shots start running noticeably faster or slower, the grind needs attention. Small adjustments, made early, keep the taste stable.
5. Only what you need
Fill the bean hopper with the day's coffee and keep the rest sealed. It is the easiest freshness gain there is.
6. Name an owner
Every good coffee station has someone who cares about it. Give that person a short checklist and a direct line to us, and small issues never become a bad week of coffee.
Consistency is a routine, not a machine setting.
Within a MONTARA program we can help set these routines up, from equipment advice to on-site training for the people who look after the station.
